My Thoughts Vented

Today I had a conversation with a woman who was diagnosed with cancer. While she was battling with this disease, life challenged her with many other struggles which included a separation from her husband and her kids. This young lady poured her heart out and I couldn’t utter a single word to pacify her. I realized that there are times when words fail to make an impact.

This episode had an indelible impact on me. How often do we pause to appreciate what we have in life?

When I was young I used to take things for granted. After all, we were young and we didn’t know what life had on the other side.

One thing we took for granted was education. We never thought how lucky we were to be educated.

We also took our teachers for granted. We never thought how lucky we were to have teachers who cared for our growth so much, and poured their heart and soul to teach us.

Then slowly as I grew up, I began to appreciate things around me more. As I saw more and more of the world out there I realized all the things I’d be given are not rights, but privileges.

I realized that being literate is not a right, but a gift. I realized there is lot of war and violence in the world, and I’m lucky to live in a state where it’s safe and peaceful. I realized there are people out there who don’t have their five senses, and to have mine is a gift.

I realized the world is so beautiful and we are lucky to live in such an amazing world.

Sometimes its easy to feel bad because you are going through a tough time in life. However, no matter how bad your situation may seem, there are tens of thousands of things to be grateful for in life.
